Kovide 19 pandemic diseases taught us so much, including how much we rely on those who care for our communities. In particular, we realized that nursing and teaching professions are on the fronts of social care to help us reach our physical, mental and emotional ability.
To ensure that nurses and teachers can continue to play a vital role, we have sought to understand the similarities and differences between their related experiences: Who takes care of the community caregivers?
Norah Health and Stir, International NGOs support nurses and teachers respectively so that they can best meet the needs of their communities, for the facts of two essential professions, the struggle and clear talks about bright places, and four government sectors from all over India. This is what we learned.
Definition is a huge stimulus …
Co -teachers and nurses identified the definitions they receive from children and patients as a key stimulus. They encourage them to continue their role. As a Delhi school teacher, Komal, says: “Students are giving a lot. If you try, they appreciate it very much. Through letters and gestures, they tell you how important you are to them. Nurse Aarti, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, added:” When the patient is happy and happy. “
… But society does not value these roles
However, this definition does not always run outside the hospital and school gates. Karnataka’s maternity nurse Megha says: “When they see us working, everyone praises teachers and nurses. When they need us, they realize how important we are. But otherwise, the image is different. While Komal noted that the teaching is considered to be the last tactic of the profession.
Expectations are non -realistic
Despite the lack of price assigned to both characters, our communities have the expectations of teachers and nurses simultaneously. Rohit, who teaches in both Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, says: “Parents expect that in six hours of school, their child will be educated.” As a society, we do not properly recognize that these jobs are difficult or we have our own responsibilities in ensuring our children’s education and personal health. These challenges can also be seen in the systems themselves. Aarti also talked about the negative attitudes of the doctors about the work of the nurses, and also said that when matters go wrong, “all the charges put on the nurses, not doctors”.
The salary is low and the hours are taller
We were not surprised to hear that all the respondents found that their salary was much less than the other career, in which they invest at work despite high levels and efforts. In some cases, salaries are not paid on time. But with a shortage in both careers, our teachers and nurses are forced to put in extra time. Arty describes working in six 12 hours of shifts every week, while Rohit is crowded in the classroom and is able to provide the effects on his attention to every child.
Based on these results, Nora Health and Stir Education offers the following recommendations:
Consider the method of increasing the definition of nurses and teachers
Although teachers and nurses get less salary than other professions, the value of these roles will continue to decline. Governments have to find a way to increase salaries, recognize the years of training needed to meet these roles, and encourage young people to get nursing and education as a first choice career.
However, we can encourage even more appreciation in other ways. It is disappointing to hear that doctors may face negative attitudes about nurses, while in many systems, education leaders have long rejected teachers as part of the problem in improving the results of education. We should work to improve relations within our systems, promote confidence and understand the challenges facing all roles, and then model this definition in our interaction with patients, parents and children. Both Noor’s health and stirring education are happy to deal with this aspect through their activities.
Invest in the development and fitness of nurses and teachers
All our interviewers also told us that they were affected by investing in their personal development. This is a valuable and relatively low -cost method to maintain the current workforce and stimulate the current workforce.
For example, stirring education partners with state governments in India to improve their support for teachers and restore their sentiment for teaching. The main focus on internal motivation puts teachers in the heart of education, and encourages the system to ensure that they have sovereignty, skills and purpose to affect meaningful change.
Make nurses and teachers a co -designer in the health and education systems
Nurses and teachers are in the best position to understand the ground realities of our health and education system. They know the needs of the community, context and individuals. We should invite them to become a participant in hospitals and schools.
Nora Health works with nurses to create tools and resources, which can be trained by family careers to take care of their loved ones, thus reducing reading rates and repeated travel in the hospital. We are capable of turning the hospital waiting rooms into classrooms and empowering family careers because our training materials were jointly prepared with people who care for society every day, and understand patients, their families and diseases as well.
Finally: sympathy in the process
For a short moment, Kovide -19 gave rise to a sudden and great appreciation for nurses and teachers. As Megha shared: “What we do is a daily work, but because of this has been seen because of Coid”. We must take the sympathy we feel during the Kovide 19 pandemic diseases: please appreciate their efforts with our teachers and nurses, and recognizing that these people take care of the community even before taking care of themselves.
Ravi hopes a positive change is coming. Through education, they share, “It is possible to improve the fabric of society so that children can learn to think of nurses and teachers.” Explain, change, comes from the inside. As Megha told us, “Teachers and nurses are doing such a big job. We need to re -imagine and explain our comments about what these professions are really. Let’s revisit your views about nurses and teachers – and encourage your system.
